Seniors/Colts/U17s pre-season |
Seniors, colts and U17 pre-season training commences on Thursday 3rd July at Oval Park. Planned sessions will start at 7.00pm. so if you want a game of touch as a warm up, then please be there earlier.
Bring trainers as well as boots because training might take place on a mixture of surfaces. Bring your own fluids although we will make water available.
Exciting news is that the seniors have a new Head Coach, Martin Steele. Martin comes with good track record having coached Melton in two promotion campaigns and last year he coached Peterborough Lions which were a well drilled team. He will be coming along to the early sessions to get to know players and will be fully involved from August.
Equally exciting is that renowned fitness trainer John Cross will be leading a number of SAQ fitness sessions. Those of you who have attended John's sessions before know that whilst they're hard work, they are fun and you're always on the move.
The club is investing heavily in Martin and John but that will all be in vain if the players don't improve their committment and attitude. If you put in the effort now and develop a good work ethic and build up team spirit Wyggs are quite capable of having a great season, perhaps even winning promotion straight away.
To encourage team building, as a trial until the end of July, the bar will be open on Monday as well as Thursday after training.
The plan for Martin's and John's sessions is as follows: -
July
Starting on Thursday 3/7 and thereafter every Monday and Thursday throughout July (other than Monday 14/7 and Thursday 17/7), will be SAQ/fitness sessions led by John Cross (followed by touch?). John can't make Monday 14/7 and Thursday 17/7 so we might plan something different for those nights!
August
From Monday 4/8 and thereafter every Monday and Thursday throughout August (although perhaps not Monday 25/8 which is Bank Holiday), will be core rugby sessions for Seniors and Colts led by Martin Steele (Seniors) and Neil Jones (Colts).
During August, John Cross will be running SAQ sessions on a Wednesday evenings for the junior teams. Senior players and colts are welcome to attend. He's still doing Mondays in August unless Martin says otherwise.
I hope to see as many of you as possible at these sessions, giving your support to the trainers, coaches and your fellow players.
With a strong youth section and colts coming through to play senior rugby, I am confident Wyggs are on the way up. It's up to all of us though to make it a success. |

At last, our U15s finally got their hands on the County Cup, beating Mkt Harboro' 10-3 in a very close final, at Mkt Harboro'.
For the third year in a row Market Harborough and Oadby Wyggs contested the County Cup Final, but unlike the previous two finals, Wyggs finally came out narrow winners to claim the crown of county champions.

Kick Off times for Junior County Plate Finals |

Oadby Wyggs U13s, U14s, & U16s have all made it to the finals of the County Cup Plate competition.
All finals are to be played at Aylestone St. James RFC, Covert Lane, Scraptoft, on Sunday 16th March (ie next Sunday).
KO times are as follows:
U13s vs. Oakham - 10:00AM; U14s vs Oakham - 11:30AM; U16s vs Hinckley - 2:30PM
So get along to Jimmies next Sunday and support our lads!
